6V6GT Tung-Sol 5992 Powertubes Röhren BTB matched Pair
Two output valves matched by BTB at a practical 400 V test point
For compatible Tweed, hi-fi and guitar push-pull output stages
5992 remains a BTB search term, not a verified current type marking
Tung-Sol 6V6GT – BTB-matched pair for Tweed, hi-fi and guitar amplifiers
This set contains two current-production Tung-Sol 6V6GT beam power tetrodes. Each valve uses an eight-pin octal base, a nominal 6.3 V heater and carries a maximum plate-dissipation rating of 13.2 W.
BTB matches both output valves at a practical plate voltage of 400 V. The pair is suitable for compatible push-pull stages using two 6V6GT valves or two identically configured single-ended channels.
Suitable applications
- Tweed and Deluxe-style guitar amplifiers using two 6V6GT valves
- Hi-fi push-pull stages using one 6V6GT pair
- Stereo single-ended amplifiers using one 6V6GT per channel
- Complete replacement of an existing two-valve 6V6GT set
- New builds with a correctly rated output transformer
- Amplifiers whose plate and screen-grid voltages suit the current version

- 5992
- Historical special or quality designation that must not be applied to every current 6V6GT without a clear manufacturer specification
Selection and application notes
Matching does not replace bias or operating-point verification. Set the bias in a fixed-bias circuit; in a cathode-biased circuit, check cathode voltage and plate dissipation.
Some guitar amplifiers operate 6V6 valves above classic data-sheet voltages. A manufacturer description of rugged guitar use does not replace measurement of the plate voltage, screen voltage and dissipation.
The manufacturer's approximately 87 mm overall height must be considered in compact combos, valve retainers and enclosure covers.
Power valves operate with lethal voltages and become very hot. Installation and measurements require suitable expertise.
Questions about selection and use
Is the Tung-Sol 6V6GT BTB-matched pair suitable for a push-pull stage using two 6V6 valves?
Yes, the Tung-Sol 6V6GT BTB-matched pair is suitable for compatible push-pull stages using a total of two 6V6GT valves. The heater supply, plate and screen-grid voltages, bias, output transformer and height must suit the circuit.
Can the Tung-Sol pair replace an existing two-valve 6V6GT set?
Yes, the Tung-Sol pair can replace an existing two-valve 6V6GT set when the base, operating point, heater demand and mechanical clearance match. The BTB wording 5992 does not constitute a separate current manufacturer approval.
Should the operating point be checked after installing the matched 6V6GT pair?
Yes, the operating point must be checked after installation. Adjust the bias in a fixed-bias amplifier; in a cathode-biased amplifier, verify cathode current, plate dissipation, screen-grid loading and heater voltage.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
