Lundahl LL1620 Housing – ventilated steel cover for large audio transformers

The Lundahl LL1620 Housing is a four-part ventilated steel cover for large Lundahl audio transformers. It provides mechanical protection for terminals and windings and supports an enclosed above-chassis installation.

The cover is made from 2 mm construction steel and has a medium-dark charcoal semi-gloss powder-coated finish. Four mounting holes and a central cable opening support clean chassis installation.

Suitable applications

  • Mechanical cover for large Lundahl output transformers
  • Touch protection around open terminals and high-voltage wiring
  • Visually consistent mounting on valve-amplifier chassis
  • DIY and small-production amplifiers using the compatible hole pattern
  • Retrofitting a closed cover where the chassis has adequate strength

Compatible Lundahl models

Lundahl lists the cover for models including LL1620, LL1623, LL1627, LL1648, LL1649, LL1650, LL1651, LL1679, LL2410, LL2414, LL2418, LL2419 and LL9202. Compare the transformer dimensions, terminal position and chassis cut-out with the current drawing before installation.

Installation notes

The amplifier chassis must safely support the installed transformer, typically weighing up to approximately 2.5 kg, together with additional mechanical loads. A thin chassis can require a reinforcing plate or larger washers.

Fit the cable opening with a suitable insulated bush, grommet or strain relief. High-voltage wiring must not rub against sharp steel edges and requires adequate clearance from the cover and mounting screws.

Do not obstruct the ventilation openings. The cover does not replace electrical insulation of the terminals or a correctly designed protective-earth and chassis system.

Questions about selection and use

Is the Lundahl LL1620 Housing suitable for LL1620, LL1623 and LL1627 transformers?

Yes, the Lundahl LL1620 Housing is intended for the LL1620, LL1623 and LL1627 together with several other large Lundahl models. Compare the dimensions, terminal position and chassis holes with the current drawing before installation.

Can the Lundahl transformer cover be mounted with four M4 screws and a central cable opening?

Yes, the cover has four approximately 4.5 mm mounting holes on a 40 × 60 mm pattern and a cable opening of approximately 20 mm. An insulated cable bush and an adequately strong chassis surface are required.

Is the LL1620 Housing suitable as mechanical touch and terminal protection?

Yes, the LL1620 Housing is suitable as mechanical touch and terminal protection when installed correctly. It does not replace electrical insulation and has no specified mu-metal shielding performance.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
