Magnoval B9D PCB socket with a white ceramic body

This Magnoval B9D valve socket is designed for direct through-hole mounting on printed circuit boards. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, power output stages, test assemblies, repairs and restoration projects using nine-pin Magnoval valves. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant insulating base. Silver-plated spring cup contacts securely engage the substantial valve pins, while nine PCB solder pins allow direct integration into the board layout. The central guide opening supports correct valve orientation. A mechanically compatible valve should be inserted before final soldering so that the contacts and solder pins can align without tension, reducing unnecessary forces on the valve pins and glass base.

Typical mechanically compatible valves

Power and line-output valves: EL519, EL509, PL509, EL504, PL519, 6P45S and EL500

A common Magnoval B9D base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data, operating values and permissible dissipation must match the relevant circuit.

Alternative designations

Internationally used designations for this format include Magnoval B9D, 9-Pin Magnoval, Magnoval PCB Socket, B9D PCB Tube Socket and 9-Pin Power Tube Socket.

PCB mounting and application questions

What PCB hole pattern is required?

For the nine solder pins, use 9 × Ø 2.5 mm holes on a Ø 17.5 mm pitch circle. The central guide opening measures Ø 9.8 mm. Orientation and pin numbering must be checked against the technical drawing before the PCB is manufactured.

What contact construction is used?

The socket uses silver-plated spring cup contacts of the tulip type. These engage the valve pins resiliently and support reliable contact. During soldering, prevent solder and flux from entering the contacts.

Which valves fit mechanically?

Magnoval B9D valves such as EL519, PL519, EY500A and EL500 fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the relevant circuit.

Why should a valve be inserted before soldering?

Insert a mechanically compatible Magnoval valve before final soldering. This allows the contacts and solder pins to align without tension. It reduces lateral forces on the valve pins and helps prevent mechanical stress at the glass base. The valve must not be energised during this procedure, and solder or flux must not enter the contacts.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
