For chassis mounting, replacement and repair in tube equipment
Socket Magnoval B9D, 9-pin, chassis, cutout 27-28 mm
Magnoval B9D chassis socket with a white ceramic body
This Magnoval B9D valve socket is designed for chassis mounting and point-to-point wiring. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, power output stages, service equipment, repairs and restoration projects using nine-pin Magnoval valves. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant insulating base. Silver-plated spring cup contacts securely engage the substantial valve pins, while nine solder lugs permit clear and accessible wiring. The separate retaining ring supports installation from either side of the chassis. A mechanically compatible valve should be inserted before final soldering so that the contacts and solder lugs can align without tension, reducing unnecessary forces on the valve pins and glass base.

A common Magnoval B9D base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data, operating values and permissible dissipation must match the relevant circuit.
Alternative designations
Internationally used designations for this format include Magnoval B9D, 9-Pin Magnoval, Magnoval Chassis Socket, B9D Chassis Tube Socket and 9-Pin Chassis-Mount Tube Socket.
Installation and use of the Magnoval chassis socket
What chassis cut-out and mounting centres are required?
A chassis cut-out of Ø 27 to 28 mm is recommended. The mounting centres are 35 mm centre-to-centre, and the overall width across the retaining ring is 42 mm. The socket, retaining ring and chassis holes should be checked together before series production.
How is the separate retaining ring installed?
The separate retaining ring allows the socket to be mounted from either the top or bottom side of the chassis. The guide opening must be aligned correctly with the intended pinout. The retaining ring and chassis must safely withstand the forces generated when inserting and withdrawing the valve.
What contact construction is used?
The socket uses silver-plated spring cup contacts and solder lugs for point-to-point wiring. During soldering, prevent solder and flux from entering the contact springs.
Why should a valve be inserted before soldering?
Insert a mechanically compatible Magnoval valve before final soldering. This allows the contacts and solder lugs to align without tension. It reduces lateral forces on the valve pins and helps prevent mechanical stress at the glass base. The valve must not be energised during this procedure.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
