For tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi, guitar amps, repair and DIY audio builds
Commonly also known as Pico-9, 9-pin miniature, E9-1, E9-68 or S9C
22 mm cut-out, 28 mm centres, fits ECC83, ECC82, EZ80 and EZ81 B9A
Noval B9A ceramic tube socket for chassis mounting and point-to-point wiring
This 9-pin Noval B9A tube socket is designed for new builds, repairs and professional restoration of tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar amplifiers, studio electronics and test equipment. The white ceramic body provides a heat-resistant, electrically insulating base for traditional point-to-point wiring. Silver-plated spring cup contacts provide reliable engagement with the tube pins, while the accessible solder lugs support clean chassis wiring. A separate mounting ring allows the socket to be installed from either side of the chassis. It is therefore suitable both as a replacement component and for high-quality DIY audio and amplifier projects.

Suitable tubes and common designations
The socket is mechanically suitable for tubes with a 9-pin Noval B9A base. Typical examples include:
- Pre-amplifier and dual triodes: ECC83 / 12AX7 / 7025, ECC82 / 12AU7, ECC88 / 6DJ8, E88CC / 6922 and 6N11
- Rectifier tubes: EZ80 / 6V4 and EZ81 / 6CA4
Common search and comparison designations: Noval, B9A, Pico-9, 9-pin miniature, miniature 9-pin, E9-1, E9-68 and S9C for comparable chassis-mount sockets with solder lugs.
A shared base format does not establish electrical interchangeability. Heater data, pin assignment and operating conditions must always match the circuit.
Practical questions about mounting and compatibility
What chassis cut-out is required for the Noval B9A socket?
The nominal chassis cut-out is 22 mm in diameter. The two mounting holes are 3.5 mm in diameter and spaced 28 mm centre-to-centre.
Which tubes fit this 9-pin B9A socket?
The socket is mechanically suitable for tubes with a Noval B9A base, including ECC83/12AX7, ECC82/12AU7, ECC88/6DJ8, E88CC/6922 and 6N11, as well as the EZ80/6V4 and EZ81/6CA4 rectifier tubes.
What type of contacts does this Noval tube socket use?
The socket uses silver-plated spring cup contacts with solder lugs. The spring contact surrounds the tube pin and is intended for point-to-point chassis wiring.
Can the tube socket be mounted from above or below the chassis?
Yes. The separate mounting ring allows installation from either the top or the underside of the chassis, depending on the mechanical design.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
