Noval B9A, Pico-9, E9-1 and 9-Pin Miniature for compact PCB mounting
Spring cup contacts, Ø20 mm PCD with 9 × Ø1.5 mm PCB mounting holes
Noval B9A PCB socket with a white ceramic body
This compact Noval B9A valve socket is designed for direct through-hole mounting on printed circuit boards. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar amplifiers, studio electronics, test equipment and DIY audio circuits requiring a space-saving nine-contact PCB socket. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant base, while silver-plated spring cup contacts retain the valve pins securely. Nine solder pins arranged on a 20 mm pitch circle allow straightforward integration into a PCB layout. The socket is suitable for new designs as well as repair and restoration work. Before installation, verify the footprint, component spacing, pinout and the creepage and clearance distances required by the circuit.

Internationally used designations for this format include Noval, B9A, Pico-9, 9-Pin Miniature, Miniature 9-Pin, E9-1, E9-68, 9-Pin PCB Tube Socket and Noval PCB Socket.
PCB mounting and application questions
What PCB hole pattern is required?
For the nine solder pins, use 9 × Ø 1.5 mm holes on a Ø 20 mm pitch circle. The PCB must also provide the creepage and clearance distances required by the circuit.
Which valves fit mechanically?
Noval B9A valves such as ECC83 / 12AX7, ECC82 / 12AU7, ECC81 / 12AT7, ECC88 / 6DJ8, E88CC / 6922, 6N11, EL84 / 6BQ5, EZ80 / 6V4 and EZ81 / 6CA4 fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the circuit.
What contact construction is used?
The socket uses silver-plated spring cup contacts of the tulip type. During soldering, prevent solder and flux from entering the contact springs.
Is this socket suitable for new designs and repairs?
Yes. The compact PCB socket is suitable for new board layouts as well as repair and restoration work, provided that the existing footprint, component height and electrical clearances agree with the technical data.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
