For tube amplifiers, hi-fi, guitar amps, repair and DIY audio PCBs
Also known as Pico-9, 9-pin miniature, E9-1 or E9-68 socket format
For ECC83, ECC82, ECC81, 6922, EL84, EZ80 and EZ81 B9A vacuum tubes
Pico-9 / Noval B9A ceramic PCB tube socket
This 9-pin Noval B9A PCB socket is designed for new builds, repairs and restoration of tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar amplifiers, studio electronics and DIY audio circuits using printed circuit boards. The white ceramic body provides a heat-resistant and electrically insulating base. Silver-plated fork-spring contacts provide reliable engagement with the tube pins, while the nine solder terminals allow direct through-hole mounting on the PCB. The socket has no centre contact and is suitable for compact, well-organised PCB designs using Noval B9A tubes.

Suitable tubes and common designations
The socket is mechanically suitable for tubes with a 9-pin Noval B9A base. Typical examples include:
- Pre-amplifier and dual triodes: ECC83 / 12AX7 / 7025, ECC82 / 12AU7, ECC81 / 12AT7, ECC88 / 6DJ8, E88CC / 6922, 6N1P, 6N2P and 6N11
- Power tubes: EL84 / 6BQ5
- Rectifier tubes: EZ80 / 6V4 and EZ81 / 6CA4
Common search and comparison designations: Pico-9, Noval, B9A, 9-pin miniature, miniature 9-pin, E9-1, E9-68, Noval Print Standard and 9-pin PCB tube socket.
A shared base format does not establish electrical interchangeability. Heater data, pin assignment and operating conditions must always match the circuit.
Practical questions about PCB mounting
What PCB drill pattern is required for the Noval B9A socket?
The PCB requires nine plated-through holes with a drill diameter of 2.0 to 2.5 mm on an 11.89 mm pin circle. Allow a clear diameter of approximately 21 to 23 mm around the socket.
Which tubes fit this 9-pin PCB socket?
The socket is mechanically suitable for tubes with a Noval B9A base, including ECC83/12AX7/7025, ECC82/12AU7, ECC81/12AT7, ECC88/6DJ8, E88CC/6922, EL84/6BQ5 and the EZ80/6V4 and EZ81/6CA4 rectifier tubes.
What contact type does the Noval PCB socket use?
The socket uses silver-plated fork-spring contacts and nine PCB solder terminals. It has no centre contact.
Are PCB layout data available for this socket?
yes, you find the footprint informations in the KICAD database if you search for GZC9-Y

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
