For tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi, guitar amps, studio and power supplies
Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal Tube Socket and Ceramic Chassis Socket
Spring cup contacts, small ring, 35 mm span and 42 mm overall width
Octal K8A chassis-mount socket with spring cup contacts
This compact Octal K8A valve socket is designed for chassis mounting and point-to-point wiring. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar and bass amplifiers, studio electronics, power supplies, measuring equipment and test systems. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant insulating base. Silver-plated spring cup contacts retain the valve pins securely, while eight solder lugs permit clear and accessible wiring. The separate small retaining ring supports installation from either side of the chassis. The socket is suitable for new equipment, repairs and restoration work, provided that the chassis cut-out, mounting positions, pinout, thermal conditions and electrical safety clearances match the intended construction.

Typical mechanically compatible valves
Power valves: EL34, 6L6GC, 6550C, KT88, KT120 and KT150
Rectifiers: GZ34 / 5AR4 and 5U4G
Driver valves and dual triodes: 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT
A common Octal K8A base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data and operating values must match the relevant circuit.
Alternative designations
Internationally used designations for this format include Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal Chassis Socket, 8-Pin Chassis-Mount Tube Socket, Octal Tube Socket and Octal Valve Socket.
Installation and use in valve amplifiers
What chassis cut-out is required?
A chassis cut-out of Ø 26.5 to 28 mm is recommended for the socket. BTB specifies a recommended screw spacing of 36 to 38 mm. The socket, retaining ring and chassis holes should be checked together before series production.
How is the small retaining ring installed?
The separate small retaining ring allows the socket to be mounted from either the top or bottom side of the chassis. The locating key must be aligned correctly with the intended pinout. The retaining ring and chassis must safely withstand the forces generated when inserting and withdrawing the valve.
What contact construction is used?
The socket uses silver-plated spring cup contacts and solder lugs for point-to-point wiring. During soldering, prevent solder and flux from entering the contact springs.
Which valves fit mechanically?
Octal K8A valves such as EL34, 6L6GC, 6550C, KT88, KT120, KT150, GZ34 / 5AR4, 5U4G, 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the circuit.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
