For valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi, guitar amps, studio and power supplies
Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal Chassis Socket and Valve Tube Socket
Spring contacts, large ring, 36-39 mm mounting centres for chassis
Octal K8A chassis socket with a large retaining ring
This Octal K8A valve socket is designed for chassis mounting and point-to-point wiring. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar and bass amplifiers, studio electronics, power supplies, repair work and restoration projects. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant insulating base. Tin-plated spring contacts engage the eight valve pins reliably, while solder lugs permit clear and accessible wiring. The separate large retaining ring supports installation from either the top or bottom side of the chassis and provides a generous mounting range. Before installation, verify the chassis cut-out, mounting centres, pinout, thermal conditions and electrical safety clearances against the equipment design.

Typical mechanically compatible valves
Power valves: EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6550C, KT88, KT120 and KT150
Rectifiers: 5U4G and GZ34 / 5AR4
Driver valves and dual triodes: 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT
A common Octal K8A base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data and operating values must match the relevant circuit.
Alternative designations
Internationally used designations for this format include Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal Chassis Socket, 8-Pin Chassis-Mount Tube Socket, Octal Tube Socket and Octal Valve Socket.
Installation and use of the Octal socket
What chassis cut-out is required?
For mounting from the top side of the chassis, a cut-out of Ø 25 to 30.5 mm is recommended. For mounting from the bottom side, the recommended range is Ø 26 to 30.5 mm. Depending on the screws and slotted holes, the mounting centres may range from 36 to 39 mm; the technical drawing shows a nominal dimension of 39 mm.
How is the large retaining ring installed?
The separate large retaining ring permits the socket to be installed from either the top or bottom side of the chassis. Its overall width is 49 mm. The socket, retaining ring, screws and chassis holes should be checked together before final machining.
Which valves fit mechanically?
Octal K8A valves such as EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6550C, KT88, KT120, KT150, 5U4G, GZ34 / 5AR4, 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the circuit.
What must be considered during installation and soldering?
The locating key must agree with the intended pinout and installation orientation. A mechanically compatible valve may be inserted without tension before final soldering so that the contacts can align. Prevent solder and flux from entering the spring contacts.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
