For tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi, guitar amps, studio and test equipment
Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal PCB Socket and Valve Tube Socket for PCB
Fork-spring contacts, Ø 26 mm PCD and 8 × Ø 2.5 mm THT PCB drill holes
Octal K8A PCB socket with silver-plated fork-spring contacts
This Octal K8A valve socket is designed for direct through-hole mounting on printed circuit boards. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar and bass amplifiers, studio electronics, power supplies, measuring equipment and test systems. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant insulating base. Silver-plated fork-spring contacts provide reliable engagement and are particularly suitable for applications in which valves are inserted and removed frequently. The eight PCB solder pins are arranged on a 26.0 mm pitch circle. The socket is suitable for new PCB designs as well as repair and restoration work, provided that the footprint, pinout, component height, thermal conditions and electrical safety clearances match the equipment design.

Typical mechanically compatible valves
Power valves: EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6V6GT, 6550, KT66, KT88, KT120 and KT150
Rectifiers: GZ34 / 5AR4 and 5U4G
Driver valves and dual triodes: 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT
A common Octal K8A base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data and operating values must match the relevant circuit.
Alternative designations
Internationally used designations for this format include Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal PCB Socket, 8-Pin PCB Tube Socket, Octal Tube Socket and Octal Valve Socket.
PCB mounting and application questions
What PCB hole pattern is required?
For the eight solder pins, use 8 × Ø 2.5 mm holes on a Ø 26.0 mm pitch circle. The position of the locating key must agree with the pinout, PCB layout and component orientation.
Why are fork-spring contacts used?
Fork-spring contacts are suitable for applications involving frequent mating cycles, including measuring and test equipment. During soldering, prevent solder and flux from entering the contact springs.
Which valves fit mechanically?
Octal K8A valves such as EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6V6GT, 6550, KT66, KT88, KT120, KT150, GZ34 / 5AR4, 5U4G, 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the circuit.
What must be considered when mounting the socket on a PCB?
The PCB must be adequately supported against the forces generated when inserting and withdrawing the valve. For high-power output valves and rectifiers, the design must also account for heat generation, component spacing and the required creepage and clearance distances.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
