For tube amplifiers, Hi-Fi, guitar amps, studio and power supplies
Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal PCB Socket and K8A Tube Socket
Spring cup contacts, Ø 26.5 mm PCD, 8 × Ø 2.5 mm PCB holes
Octal K8A PCB socket with spring cup contacts
This Octal K8A valve socket is designed for direct through-hole mounting on printed circuit boards. It is suitable for valve amplifiers, Hi-Fi equipment, guitar and bass amplifiers, studio electronics, power supplies, repair work and restoration projects. The white ceramic body provides a dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant base for power valves, rectifiers and octal driver valves. Nickel-plated spring cup contacts provide high retention force and secure engagement with the valve pins. The eight PCB terminals are arranged on a 26.5 mm pitch circle. The socket is therefore suitable for new PCB designs and replacement applications, provided that the footprint, component height, electrical clearances and thermal requirements agree with the existing construction.

Typical mechanically compatible valves
Power valves: EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6V6GT, 6550, KT66, KT88, KT120 and KT150
Rectifiers: GZ34 / 5AR4, 5U4G and 274B
Driver valves and dual triodes: 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT
A common Octal K8A base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability. Pinout, heater data and operating values must match the relevant circuit.
Alternative designations
Internationally used designations for this format include Octal K8A, 8-Pin Octal, Octal PCB Socket, 8-Pin PCB Tube Socket, Octal Tube Socket and Octal Valve Socket.
PCB mounting and application questions
What PCB hole pattern is required?
For the eight solder pins, use holes with a recommended diameter of Ø 2.5 mm on a Ø 26.5 mm pitch circle. The terminals are arranged at 45° intervals. The position of the octal locating key must agree with the pinout, PCB layout and component orientation.
Which valves fit mechanically?
Octal K8A valves such as EL34 / 6CA7, 6L6GC, 6V6GT, 6550, KT66, KT88, KT120, KT150, GZ34 / 5AR4, 5U4G, 274B, 6SL7GT and 6SN7GT fit mechanically. A common base does not guarantee electrical interchangeability; pinout, heater data and operating values must match the circuit.
What contact construction is used?
The socket uses nickel-plated spring cup contacts. This contact design provides comparatively high insertion and retention force and is therefore particularly suitable for power valves and applications in which the valve must be held securely in its socket.
What must be considered when mounting the socket on a PCB?
The PCB must be adequately supported against the forces generated when inserting and withdrawing the valve. For high-power output valves and rectifiers, the equipment design must also account for component spacing, heat generation and the required creepage and clearance distances. Prevent solder and flux from entering the spring cup contacts.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
