Budget-friendly starter EL34 and spare from current EU production
Single tube for SE amps, experiments and OEM own in-house selection
Warm, soft and colorful in hi-fi, bluesy and earthy in guitar amps
JJ EL34 Red Label single tube – the budget power pentode for starting, replacing and selecting
Thanks to its excellent price-to-performance ratio and long, consistent production run, the JJ Electronic EL34 is regarded as the gold standard among currently manufactured EL34/6CA7 tubes. As a single tube it is the straightforward choice for three cases: a budget-friendly starter EL34 for first tube projects and experiments, a spare for replacing one tube – and per-piece stock for OEM customers and workshops who select to their own criteria.
In hi-fi the JJ EL34 sounds pleasantly warm with a soft tendency, colorful and spacious; in a guitar amplifier it plays very dynamically and delivers a bluesy, earthy, harmonically rich response with musical compression. Like every fresh output tube, it needs around 50 to 100 hours of burn-in until the sound has settled.
Typical applications
- Single-ended amplifiers and circuits with one EL34 per output stage
- Replacing a single tube in cathode-biased and SE circuits
- First audio DIY projects, experiments and circuit comparisons
- OEM, equipment building and workshops with in-house incoming selection

Application and design notes
In push-pull output stages, tubes should ideally be replaced in pairs or full sets; the single tube shines where one tube works alone or where you measure and select yourself anyway. Check the idle current after every tube change in fixed-bias circuits. Lethal voltages are present in operation – experimenting inside an open chassis requires proper qualification.
Questions about selection and use
Can I replace one failed EL34 with this single tube?
Yes, in single-ended and cathode-biased circuits a single swap is unproblematic. In push-pull stages, pairwise replacement is the better long-term practice – but if you can measure yourself, the affordable single tube is suitable raw material for that as well.
Is the JJ EL34 a good starter tube for first projects?
Yes, there is hardly a cheaper way into a currently produced, robust EL34: the low unit price allows experiments, operating point comparisons and the occasional failed attempt without breaking the project budget – with a tone that stays warm, colorful and musical.
Does per-piece stock suit OEM use and in-house selection?
Yes, equipment manufacturers and workshops who measure and pair to their own criteria source the JJ EL34 as an unselected single tube in any quantity. Its consistent EU series production provides a predictable, homogeneous starting base for that.

The EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (2011/65/EU = "RoHS 2") aims to exclude certain hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment or to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment. These include substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, as well as certain brominated flame retardants and plasticizers. These substances may only be used in electrical and electronic equipment up to a maximum concentration limit, unless exemptions in the annexes to the directive permit their use under certain conditions. This can reduce and eliminate harmful substances and improve the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. To find out whether the component you purchased from us is permitted in your device, please refer to the current directive or the current law applicable to your country. If you are a manufacturer, please feel free to contact us to find out whether the component you require can be tested and approved according to the current directives. We would be happy to assist you.
